Dependence of the cement industry on imported equipment and raw materials was assessed by experts as critical
06.06.2022

Non-profit Association “SOYUZCEMENT” participated in the study conducted by the National Association of Building Materials and Construction Industry Manufacturers (NOPSM) and SM PRO Ltd. Experts have set themselves the task to assess the needs of the industry in foreign equipment, to study the prospects for import substitution.
To make objective conclusions, the authors of the work analyzed the data obtained from the building industry enterprises, industry associations and unions. Information about the current state of cement production was provided by SOYUZCEMENT.
The study results were presented by Anton Solon, Executive Director of SOYUZCEMENT and Chairman of the Committee on Development of Building Materials Industry of the Russian Union of Builders, at the meeting of RSPP Commission for the Construction Complex, dedicated to opportunities for import substitution. The event, held on May 31, was attended by Alexander Murychev, Vice President of Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE), Andrey Kopytin, Acting Director of Federal State Institution of Building Materials, Oleg Betin, Deputy Chairman of Public Council at Russian Ministry of Construction, Vitaly Kryuchkov, Director General of Research Center “Construction” and other experts.
In his speech to the audience, Anton Solon noted, in particular, that the cement industry in Russia is critically dependent on imported equipment. Up to 80% of the components which are necessary for repair and modernization are produced abroad. Domestic analogues are either significantly inferior to the imported products in terms of quality characteristics, or they are not produced at all. It is also about the main technological equipment – separators, burners, drives, compressors, grinding plants. The same problems concern palletizing lines, some types of quarry equipment, grinding bodies, refractories, additives, lining, etc. It is especially important to note that only low-efficiency and large-sized gas purification plants (including bag filters and electrostatic precipitators) are produced in Russia, which calls into question the possibility of effective implementation of environmental programs.
“The results of the study confirm: currently one of the most urgent issues for cement manufacturers is the supply of imported equipment, components, materials and technologies. Cement manufacturers have already faced with a significant rise in price of foreign-made goods, difficulties in organization of their purchase. In these circumstances it is necessary to develop domestic machinery for the cement industry, raising the characteristics of the goods produced to a new level”, – emphasizes Vyacheslav Shmatov, Chairman of the Board of “SOYUZCEMENT”.
