The Russian polymer flooring market grew by 34% in 2018
01.10.2019

The Russian Association of Polymer Floor Manufacturers (AsPPP) conducted a survey, according to which the total sales of polymer floors in 2018 amounted to 25 thousand tons, which is 34% higher than in 2017.

According to market participants, the growth in consumption is associated with the deferred demand of previous years, as well as the fact that many facilities were to be completed by the World Cup 2018. Consumers’ interest in modern high-tech materials is growing in both the industrial and commercial real estate segments. Decorative possibilities of polymer floors are attracting more and more new supporters.

Significant growth in demand was met by increasing production volumes in Russia. At the same time, import did not change. It is important to note that Russian producers play on the market on an equal footing with multinational companies. International players understand the advantages of localization and consistently increase the share of materials produced in Russia.

Sales volume of polymer floors in Russia in 2015-2018

If we consider the structure of the market by type of polymeric coatings (Fig. 1), it should be noted that the ratio of epoxy and polyurethane floors did not change in 2018. Due to a significant increase in prices for raw materials, a decrease in their volumes was expected at the beginning of the year, but such assumptions were not confirmed. At the same time, in 2017, the shortage of polyurethane raw materials and the increase in their prices led to a significant weakening of polyurethane floors compared to epoxy ones.

Consumption of polyurethane cement and epoxy cement is growing faster than expected. These materials are gaining popularity, and epoxy cement still has a very small share in the total mass of polymer floors.

“We are making significant efforts to increase the demand for polymer floors. Among them is the updating of construction regulations and educational programs for architects, which are designed to popularize polymeric flooring in the long run and bring the level of their consumption to the developed countries”, – comments Andrey Pustovgar, president of the AsPPP.

According to the forecasts of AsPPP, the polymer flooring market will grow in 2019, despite the weak performance of the construction industry as a whole. Among the growth drivers are new segments of application and reconstruction of existing facilities. Regular market research conducted by the Association helps to objectively monitor the dynamics and effectiveness of the efforts undertaken.

In Russia, polymer floors are in demand in the pharmaceutical industry, radio electronics, high-tech engineering, modern warehouses, industrial and residential real estate construction. For example, in commercial real estate coverings allow to realize creative design ideas (zoning indoors, navigation, integration of drawings and logos).

Such floors are environmentally friendly, resistant to aggressive substances, various mechanical loads and high temperatures. They are distinguished by their hygiene, durability and resistance to abrasion. Thus, these modern building materials allow to reduce operating costs, minimize risks and strengthen the position of customers in the competition.
