Abstract

A problem of cement quality in Russia is caused by the increasing trends of incomplete Portland cement clinker burning, and insufficient cement grinding. The article gives physical and chemical characteristics of these two phenomena. Their direct and indirect consequences are described. Some ways to overcome are suggested.

Quality of concrete is crucial for quality and durability of construction facilities. Currently, concrete of low quality is extensively produced and used in construction industry in Russia. Main causes for this are a problem of cement quality, deficit and inconsistent application of crushed aggregate. Low quality of Portland cement at vast majority of cement plants can be explained with incomplete Portland cement clinker burning and insufficient Portland cement grinding, caused by energy sources saving. First of all, produces cut down expenses on natural gas, price for which jumped in 2003 and continues growing, as well as electricity, price for which is also increasing at slower rate. Quotas on process fuel and imperfection of cement standards also play their negative role.
