Abstract
The interaction of type I and type II cements with isomeric monosaccharides (arabinose, ribose, xylose) and disaccharides (sucrose, lactose and maltose) is discussed in this paper. The study was carried out on samples of diluted (1.5 %) modified cement suspensions (carbohydrate content 3 mmol/100 g of cement) with control of electrokinetic potential (ζ-potential) in real time (up to 420 min of cement hydration). Control of ζ-potential was carried out by means of dynamic light scattering. The kinetics of changing of electrokinetic potential of cements with different specific surface area and shelf life was determined. Comparative analysis made it possible to conclude that the jump in the electrokinetic potential (≈2,7 h) is characteristic and is associated with the active formation of cement gel nanoparticles. The nature of adsorption of mono- and disaccharides on colloidal particles of hydrate phases was identified by studying the kinetics of changes in the electrokinetic potential of modified cement suspensions. The presence of cyclic fragments in the structure of carbohydrates that are not involved in cyclo-oxo-tautomerism (ring opening processes) determines the nature of the adsorptive attachment of carbohydrates. In the presence of cyclic fragments resistant to opening in the carbohydrate composition, the adsorption of the carbohydrate takes place with the participation of cyclic fragments.
