Abstract
Finnish bridge network on public roads consists of about 14 600 bridges. Majority of the bridges, 60 %, are reinforced concrete bridges and 8 % are prestressed concrete bridges. Nearly all of the bridges have been built after the Second World War in a construction boom started in late 1960’s and in the second boom in 1990’s. Due to a maintenance lag caused by insufficient funding in past years and the large number of bridges coming into the rehabilitation age, the need for repair and maintenance will increase significantly in coming years.
