Abstract
Today, ash dumps at coal TPPs are an obsolete symbol of technical retardation and economic inefficiency. Ash dumps were technically and economically reasonable when coal TPPs were built in the previous century, but the 21st century requires more advanced and economically efficient projects of thermal engineering modernization. However, reconstruction and modernization of existing coal TPPs (there is not much new coal TPP construction yet) involve technically obsolete designs that are based on the principle that coal TPPs must have ash dumps.
