Abstract

Usage of lime obtained through the traditional technology of burning chunks creates certain problems, the most significant being fire hazard and the necessity of slaking lime for 8–24 hours before usage. We are proving that agglomerative burning of aggregates comprised of the mixture of ground limestone and pet coke makes it possible to obtain cheap and highly active “powder lime”. A batch of powder lime was obtained at a semi-industrial plant; its usage increases alumina extraction from bauxite by 10 %.
