Abstract
The author has been involved in research and development of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) precast members in the Czech Republic together with the Klokner Institute of the Czech Technical University in Prague which acted as a supplier and contractor. The experience from this research has been utilized in design and implementation of light-weight segmental deck of the cable-stayed footbridge over the Labe River in Čelakovice with 3 spans of 43 + 156 + 43 m. Superstructure is assembled from segments of C130 / 150 concrete with steel fibre reinforcement. The deck has 60 mm thin slab with steel fibre reinforcement only. Detailing, design issues, construction method and efficiency of using UHPC on this large span lightweight bridge are described in this paper. The Čelakovice footbridge was completed in April 2014. The project main advantages are low maintenance and reasonable life cycle cost.
