Abstract

At present in the Russian Federation 83 deposits of gypsum, anhydrite and gypsum-rock are accounted with balance reserves according to categories A+B+C1 equal to about 3,2 billion tons. 25 of them are worked out nowadays, their total explored reserves amount to one third of the total Russian reserves.

It should be noted that the gypsum mineral-raw materials base in Russia is characterized by a substantial shortcoming: it has unbalanced distribution over Russia’s territory. So, there are 57,4% of balance raw materials reserves concentrated in the Central Federal District, while only 24,9% – in the Privolzhsky Federal District. Furthermore, deposits located in the Asian part of Russia feature relatively small reserves, rather low raw-material quality as well as a great distance from consumers and transport routes. The regional structure of gypsum reserves distribution is shown in Pic. 1.

The feature of gypsum manufacturing industry is that the same companies are mining and processing manufactures for gypsum and its products, which work with substantial part of extracted gypsum rock. Due to this gypsum production level depends directly on gypsum extraction and processing, and has similar growth rate.
