Abstract

The article discusses problems of using alternative fuels produced from waste of various nature including municipal solid waste (MSW) and old railway sleepers and car tires in cement production. The main technology and environmental aspects of the operation of a clinkering furnace unit with alternative fuel (AF) are considered. The article also discusses the measurement of harmful emissions including heavy metals, dioxins, and furans by the standards of the EU and Russia. The paper is based on data on the experience of AF implementation at a cement plant and on proposals that have been coordinated with other plants.
