Abstract
Surfactants (SAS) are diphilic chemical substances whose molecules have lyophilic and lyophobic moieties. The main characteristic of SAS is surface activity, which determines their ability to lower surface tension, cause emulsification, foaming, dispersion, stabilization, wetting, and other processes that ensure widespread use of SAS in various industries.
The tendency of SAS to accumulate at interphase boundaries is their fundamental property. The stronger this ability, the higher the effectiveness of the SAS. The choice of the appropriate SAS is determined by the functions that it should perform in a particular system. An effective SAS should have low solubility in liquid phases [1].
SAS is widely used in cement systems as modifying additives for various purposes. They are used as cement clinker grinding intensifiers, water-reducing (plasticizing) additives, air-entraining additives, anti-shrink additives, additives that improve the contact of cement paste with filler, latex / redispersible polymer powder (RPP) stabilizing additives. Taking into account the ability of SAS to influence the contact of a solid and a liquid phase, as well as their relatively low cost, it seems promising to consider the theoretical prerequisites for their use in dry building mixtures (DBM) on a cement binder in order to increase technological and operational efficiency.
