Abstract
The Lafarge company holds a remarkable place in the global industry, but the scale of its business in Russia is still rather modest. At present, there are two operating cement plants, namely, Voskresensktsement in the Moscow region and Uraltsement in the Chelyabinsk region, with total cement output about 3 mln t per year. Both plants employ the wet production technology. Lafarge is currently building a big modern plant in Ferzikovo, Kaluga region, which is scheduled to be launched to full capacity in early 2014. The company also has three nonmetallic material manufacture plants (three in Karelia and one in the Tula region). A large amount of such materials comes to Russia from Lafarge enterprises in Ukraine.
The construction of the new cement plant in the Kaluga region began in late December 2010. The design capacity of the plant, which will employ the dry technology, will amount to 2 mln t per year. Equipment and assembly will be provided by CBMI (EP+C). Main contractor of project is Renaissance Construction company. Remarkably, in order to cut the energy costs of cement production, the plant is expected to use up to 45 % of alternative fuel. At present, the average fuel costs for the production of one ton of cement are € 16–18, which to a large extent explains the high self-cost of cement.
