Abstract
The main objective of this work is to develop Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC). The intensive study of the use of local materials such as the available cement type, quartz sand, silica fume and marble powder in Indonesia has been carried out since 2009.
The outstanding properties of UHPC offer a new paradigm for the future design and construction of concrete structures. In promoting the use of UHPC in Indonesia, a team of Universitas Pelita Harapan’s researchers headed by the main author, is intensively conducting research to find its mix design and the availability of local materials, with a targeted strength of over 130 MPa.
The authors used high quality quartz sand which in size is smaller than 0.5 mm, marble powder as products of the marble and granite industry, three different cements named Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), White Portland Cement (WPC) and Composite Portland Cement (PCC) with a strength of 42.5 MPa. Superplastisizer is used from the latest generation to improve the workability of fresh concrete.
The ultrasonic pulse velocity method indicated that the concrete cylinders can be categorized as being of very good uniformity. The maximum strength of concrete that can be achieved in this research is 140–150 MPa. The Modulus elasticity of UHPC is 50 GPa. The results show that UHPC with WPC have better compressive strength than OPC.
