Abstract
Sustainable structural engineering is based on the maxim that the energy and resources consumption is minimized. Hence, the durability of civil concrete structures should be sufficient to withstand the different environmental conditions during the planned service life. Therefore in practice it is necessary to monitor and to manage by means of elaborated tools the whole lifetime of a civil structure to avoid cost-intensive maintenance measures and corresponding downtimes. Against this background the role and the possibilities of an efficient lifetime management is briefly summarized.
Key words:
concrete durability; lifetime management; deterioration process; lifetime prediction; system reliability; combined actions
