Abstract

The investigation of the barium-containing industrial by-product, “Barium Sludge”, in the Portland cement clinker production has been carried out with the aim to reduce the temperature of burning and accelerate the clinkering reaction, thus leading to saving in thermal energy with improved clinker properties. One reference raw meal (RM-C) and four raw meal samples RM-1 to RM-4 containing 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 wt. % of barium sludge maintaining clinker parameters, LSF: 0.91, SM: 2.20–2.22, AM: 1.50 and potential phases, C3S: 54.08–56.44, C2S: 18.95–20.29, C3A: 8.78–8.91, C4AF: 11.72–11.90 %, were fired at the temperatures of 1300, 1350, 1400 and 1450 °C and showed remarkable improvement in the burnability of raw meal containing barium sludge, even though to a different extent.
