Abstract

The article discusses issues of fuel and electricity saving in process lines of cement plants. A number of examples are given where energy is saved through improved production technologies, namely, removal of energy-intensive machines, cutting energy costs while improving grindability, drying materials (slag and sand) with heat from the kiln body, removal of kiln body blowers in the sintering zone with replacement of blowing by a stack effect provided by exhaust stack with a built-in electric generator producing up to 100 kWh of electricity, using heat of exhaust gas of cooler vent air by heating water with thermosiphons (heat pipes), implementation of built-in calciners using alternative fuel (and, in particular, combustible municipal waste) in the wet production technology, and precalciners, a system of efficient heat exchangers and lining plates of the new type.
The article also discusses issues of energy saving by upgrading ball mills and equipping them with energy-exchange elements and separators, installing roller bearings in kilns, replacing pneumatic transport with mechanics, switching plants to power supply generated by individual piston or turbine power generators, and upgrading equipment with introduction of frequency control of motors.

Key words:

energy cost saving; specific fuel and energy consumption; technology and equipment upgrading; drying of materials; bleaching; precalciner; built-in calciners; heat exchangers; suspended admixture dryers; frequency converters; thermosiphons
