Abstract

In the tunnel widenings for the Lungern bypass (Switzerland), sprayed concrete was applied directly onto the flexible polymer waterproofing membrane (PWM) in the arch area instead of inner lining concrete. This new approach avoided costly special formwork. The amount of rebound was considerably reduced by first installing a fine steel mesh on the polymer waterproofing membrane. The whole job from the primary sprayed concrete sealing, through installation of the waterproofing to the inner poured or sprayed concrete linings demanded great expertise from all those involved.

Key words:

tunnels; drainage; sprayed concrete; polymer waterproofing membranes (PWM)
