Abstract

In 2006, the CSI developed a global database for reporting of CO₂ and energy performance information of the cement industry, called «Getting the Numbers Right» (GNR). This voluntary database delivers uniform, accurate and verified data so that the industry can understand its own current and future performance potential. Key drivers of emissions and performance are also included. The database provides industry and policy makers with current performance data to aid their analysis and decisions.

The GNR database is based on the CSI CO₂ accounting and reporting protocol, which provides a harmonized methodology for calculating CO₂ emissions in the cement industry, with a view to reporting these emissions transparently. It addresses all direct and the main indirect sources of CO₂ emissions related to the cement manufacturing process, in absolute as well as in specific or unit-based terms (the CSI protocol is based on the WBCSD/WRI greenhouse gas protocol).

The database complies with anti-trust laws and is managed by an independent third party service provider. Individual participants may only see reports based on their individual company data or aggregated results. Confidential information on individu­al companies or plants is neither disclosed, nor made accessible, and is protected by contractual and data security measures.
