Abstract
Dry mix and ready to use mortars need sag or slip control agents to avoid potential application problems. The use of these special additives could also help to achieve an increase of the mortar application thickness and therefore application saving times.
Workability is a question commonly spoken in the mortar industry and actually highly appreciated by the workers at the building site, but has always been quite a subjective issue. The article explains a new method elaborated by Tolsa (hereinafter: Tolsa method) comparing different additives related to the workability concept. The Tolsa method developed to measure workability is based on a specific [1] rheometer for mortars.
The advantages of using natural pure mineral clays and organic modified clays compared with the traditional organic anti sagging/slipping additives are also described in the paper.
