Abstract

Rings are frequently formed in cement rotating furnaces, which provides a negative effect onto operation of the equipment, because the rings block the section and prevent free flowing of material and gases, which eventually leads to furnace stoppage with a purpose to break out the rings. Another problem is that, lately, due to the growth in efficiency of dedusting units, concentration of alkaline compounds in burnt material has increased, which provokes scabbing of chain heat exchangers in furnaces used under a wet method of cement production, therefore heat exchange intensity and furnace performance are deteriorating. Crusts being formed in cyclone-type heat exchangers and in furnace decarbonizer, used under dry method of cement production, block separate parts of after-furnace system when collapsing, which also leads to lengthy downtime. A problem of ring formation and scabbing has been investigated in several dozens of works, review of which is given in monographs [1, 2], however, additional investigation is required in each separate case.

An objective of the present work is to determine causes of ringing and scabbing in furnace systems used under wet, dry and combined methods of cement production, as well as to find methods of their elimination.
