Abstract
The early protective covering detachment is happened frequently under repair of damaged reinforced concrete structures of drainage sites, even long before the end of projected service life. For polymeric covering the main reason of ‘detachment’ is heightened wetting of concrete surface. When cement basis material is used, then adhesion rate reduction and covering detachment are caused by interaction between covering and sulfate contained on the concrete surface. Thereat, principal criterion of quality of concrete surface preparation for repair using concrete basis materials is complete removal of sulfated layer.
Two following conditions are mandatory to provide long reinforced concrete structure lifetime after rapair:
First condition is easily achieved using adequate protective material durable enough in the given medium applied with adherence to specification. This stage could be considered figuratively as «mechanical art».
Second condition achievement is correlated with consideration of numerable factors and with possession of special skills not mentioned in specifications often. That’s why this stage works could be considered as «fine art». Here are basic parameters that affect covering layer adhesion to protected structure. They are divided into physical-mechanical and physical-chemical ones.
