Abstract

In the Preface to the European standard for cement EN 197–1 the 30 years long story of its development, approval and introduction in Europe is rendered.

Development of this standard was initiated by the European industrial community in 1969. Current standard EN 197–1–2000 «Cement. Composition, specifications and conformity criteria for common cements» was introduced instead of EN 197–1–1992. The standard has been worked out with due consideration of national standards for raw materials used, and of existing requirements for concrete and iron–concrete, and mode of production for them in Europe.

The purpose of the new Srarw Standard (GOST) 31108–2003 «Cement for general construction. Technical conditions» is defined in the Introduction as facilitation of «implementation of scientific–technical and economic cooperation with European countries» and as an «adequate estimate of quality of cement produced in the CIS countries and in EU».
