Abstract
The state development course, aimed at energy saving, makes us to pay more attention to issues of increasing efficiency of production processes with the highest energy consumption rates. One of such processes is production of building lime, which is undoubtedly one of the most energy-intensive processes in the building materials industry of the Belarus Republic [1]. The reasons for this are the following.
As contrasted with many geological regions of the globe, there have not been found large deposits of stony lime, usable as a local raw materials base for lime industry, in the Belarus Republic up to present. Meanwhile, use of lime as a raw material has a range of advantages. They include low natural humidity, and a possibility to bake large lumps of material in shaft furnaces, which are the most heat energy saving among existing furnace units.
The main source of raw materials for lime production in Belarus are is numerous chalky deposits, including large ones, more or less pure, but earthy and loose, and usually humidified. It is frequently the case that these rocks contain high strength stone-like silica inclusions.
